A high school football coach and his assistant were killed when their Jeep went into a ditch after hitting a sign that read ‘For Sale By Owner’ on Highway 43, which is also known locally as the I-94 bridge.
The two students were just three miles outside of Fort Madison when the crash happened in the town of Pella, where the crash occurred last week.
The coaches were among the 16 students from the University of Northern Iowa, who were on a two week summer camp, preparing for the fall semester at the school.

A law enforcement report stated that, at the time of the crash, one of the coaches fell asleep at the wheel.
In a telephone interview with the Associated Press, the sheriff’s department said it is still investigating who was driving the Jeep, and whether the driver had been sleeping at the wheel or merely driving erratically.
It is not clear if the driver was asleep asleep, or if he was driving erratically.
The incident is still under investigation, police said.
However, the law enforcement report suggests that the Jeep was being driven at an unsafe speed.
