Rupert Holmes has been living in upstate New York’s Hudson Valley for over a decade.

This is his first book-length account of travel in the U.S.

His previous book, Bumper Sticker Love: The Lost Love Letters of Robert E. Lee, won the National Book Award for Nonfiction. His writing has appeared in a variety of anthologies, for which he has been honored with numerous writing awards, including the National Book Award, the PEN New England Award, National Magazine Award and the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Edgar Allan Poe Award.

His work can be found in such publications as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, The Atlantic, The Village Voice, Vogue, Wired, the Washington Post, and The New York Times Book Review. He is the author of a number of other books, including: The Last Romantic: The Life of Lord Byron, 1807-1824; Love, Medicine and Medicine curing: The Art and Science of the Cure; and The Good Life: The Art of Simple Living.
