Beautiful antique hinged bangle bracelet with rose cut bohemian garnets. Likely made in the 19th century. The bracelet consists of three rows of garnet. It locks securely with both a lock and a safety chain.

All garnets are intact and there are no missing stones. Lock and safety chain are both intact and working. The inside is worn with some small buckles and scratches consistent with age.
The name 'Garnet' stems from the Greek word for pomegranate, a fruit with clusters of fiery red seeds. Called Bohemian because of their origins in the region now known as Czechoslovakia. This unique garnet is world renowned as the famous Bohemian Garnet and has been mined from the mountains of Bohemia for over 600 years. Garnets were highly popular in Europe during the 18th and 19th century and enjoyed great admiration and demand during the Victorian age. The brilliant sparkle of the Bohemian Garnets is due to their excellent clarity, transparency and high refraction of light. Often rose cut and clustered together to form shapes and patterns both abstract and concrete.
