Well, folks, I am going to come right to the table and admit ignorance here. I don’t know exactly what this textile is other than beautiful and evocative. I’ve been around the textile world for quite a while and I don’t know whether this is Kuba cloth or some other type of textile. I have bought and sold American fabrics, textiles and quilts for 30 years and know those pretty well, but I saw this at a recent estate sale and just was mesmerized by its folk art appeal. I think it is gorgeous. It appears to be African in origin to me, but I will leave that to you. It appears to be a rough, woven type of fabric be it cotton, hemp, or some other plant-based textile. It may be Kuba cloth but I am certainly not an expert in that area so buy it for what it is—a beautiful piece of fabric. It would make the most gorgeous pillows or table runner, or upholstery, or whatever you envision .I cannot say for sure what it is, and do not guarantee any attribution. It measures approximately 41 inches wide by 70 inches long and does have frayed edges on both ends. The sections are seamed together in a black zigzag pattern, and there are some pieces where are the sections have separated but could easily be mended. The only problems appear to be separations along those seams and fraying along the ends which I feel is intentional. However, this appears to be a handmade fabric, so you will have the expected slubs, color differences, and irregularities. However, that is what gives it its charm. Please view all pictures carefully as they are in integral part of the description and feel free to ask me any questions. If anyone has any idea as to attribution, age, ethnicity, please chime in. I would love to know more about this. Also, please view our other antique and vintage listings I always try to provide fresh, interesting, items for eBay.
