Paul Pelosi faces ‘long recovery process’ after hammer attack. Will she ‘pull through’? | US politics and policy stories

President Donald Trump said he will be “proud to watch” as Democratic congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her supporters rally against Amazon’s takeover of Whole Foods.

Pelosi appeared to face a crushing defeat Sunday after an overwhelming vote to reject a House resolution that would have blocked the controversial $100 billion deal between the e-commerce giant and grocers.

Trump predicted the House would vote again Monday, despite the resolution’s rejection. The vote was 54-55.

“I really do think that she will be able to pull through and get back to herding cats and doing the people’s business – just like she’s been doing,” the president said at a campaign rally in Louisiana.

Trump reiterated his endorsement of the deal Monday morning in a statement, saying, “I look forward to giving this great news to the people of Queens, Queens, New York!”

The House voted 245-181 to reject the resolution. The vote was just four votes shy of the two-thirds majority needed in order to advance. The resolution would also have prevented the company from expanding into Whole Foods stores.

Trump took to Twitter to celebrate the rejection and predicted that it would “lead to a long, long, long recovery process. People in Queens, New York will be the big winners.”

“I look forward to giving this great news to the people of Queens, Queens, New York, where @AOC is very strong and will do the people’s business,” he tweeted.
