The coroner’s office has determined that the rapper’s death was an accident at the hands of another, the city announced Tuesday.

The coroner’s office has determined that the rapper’s death was an accident at the hands of another, the city announced Tuesday.

The Miami Gardens office determined rapper Migos member Takeoff died on Aug. 27 at a Miami Gardens apartment, around an hour after he was shot in the head in his own home, according to a statement by Miami Gardens City Hall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a passing Miami Gardens police officer who was on patrol at 8:15 p.m. When he tried to pull him off the bed, Takeoff had a gun in hand, according to city officials.

Police have said Takeoff opened fire on officers, and he had a gun and allegedly threatened to shoot someone else earlier in the night.

Takeoff died from the gunshot wound to his head, according to city officials, and a medical exam performed the last day of his life determined whether he shot himself or was murdered by the person who shot him.

Cause of death determined: accident

“An examination of the physical evidence has determined that the cause of death is an accident,” the statement said. “This was determined by the examination of all material evidence and the coroner’s investigation of the scene and toxicology testing.”

Miami Gardens City Hall said police officers who responded to a call for a person with a firearm and a stabbing at a home found Takeoff with a gun in his hand. He was shot once in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a passing Miami Gardens police officer who was on patrol.

“Once it was determined that he had been shot and he was deceased, we performed a thorough investigation,” said Sgt. William McConky of the Miami Gardens Police Department. The investigation included a search of the apartment and an analysis of Takeoff’s body.
