It’s official: Cheers, the most-watched TV show of all time, will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and Long, who plays the part of Emily Litella, is wearing her best “Good Morning America” smile.

“Cheers” fans have been watching the sitcom since its pilot episode. The series ran from 1989 to 1997, and the cast, which includes many of TV’s biggest names, earned more than 30 Emmy nominations.

“Cheers’ longevity is an honor, and a wonderful testament to its fans,” Long said in a statement to TVLine. “It’s always been an honor to be a part of the show and in turn be a part of their lives.”

The show has had its ups and downs. It was renewed for an eighth season, making it the first show to endure an eighth and ninth season as a result of a major controversy, and then it was canceled after just one season. It was brought back again in 2010.

To celebrate its anniversary, the cast has been busy. In September, the group attended a Cheers reunion on ABC’s “Nightline,” where Long was spotted out and about in character on the red carpet.

In September, Long was announced as one of the cast members for “The Good Wife,” which is going into production this year after CBS canceled the hit legal drama.

And when the show returns to the air, Long was spotted this month in Hawaii.

Long will be back in Hollywood in the fall with a new show-of-the-week at Fox, the cable network announced Monday.

The actress, who plays Emily on Cheers, will make her series debut as the new series’ lead, “Good Girls Next Door,” at 10 p.m. Sept. 29 on Fox. Long will appear in character on the show, which stars Tichina Arnold as a TV mother, and Elisha Cuthbert as Emily’s college roommate.

Long is repped by UTA and Stone Light Entertainment.
