WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is under attack from some of its closest allies, including U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, who on Tuesday described the Trump administration as “Trumped-up.”

The remark came after Harris and fellow Democratic presidential candidate Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders released a plan to tackle climate change that is more sweeping than the Republican proposal put forward by President Donald Trump earlier this month.

The announcement by Harris and Sanders — who also endorsed the Green New Deal — comes amid continued attacks by the Trump administration on California over its policies to combat climate change.

The California Democratic Party launched a petition this week to pressure Harris to denounce Trump’s attacks on the state’s record on climate change.

Harris, who supports the Green New Deal but is not running for the White House, didn’t directly respond to the petition.

“The plan put forward by Senator Sanders is the most aggressive plan that we’ve heard yet. And yet, a lot of people do not fully understand it because we’ve seen it unfold and we’re seeing what we’ve seen unfold with the Trump-Pence administration,” Harris told reporters in Washington.

“The plan is far better than a lot of the Republican proposals that were just out and they came in with a lot of bad ideas.”

But the plan, which doesn’t include specific commitments to address climate change, was sharply criticized by some Republicans. And it was criticized by Harris and other fellow Democrats for not addressing the role of a Green New Deal in addressing
