RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon is making her Broadway debut opposite a new all-male cast in Chicago, The Broadway League announced on Tuesday.
The musical will be produced by “Hamilton: An American Musical,” actor Lin-Manuel Miranda and star a new all-male cast. Monsoon, who was a runner-up on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, will star as Miss Monsoon, a drag queen on the cusp of stardom who is pushed to the limit by her demanding manager.
In a statement to Playbill, Monsoon said, “I’m beyond grateful to my fans, this great city, my cast and crew, and the Broadway League for this opportunity. It’s like nothing else in my life but I can’t help but be so excited.”
The musical will be directed by and will be produced by Miranda, who received a Tony nomination for his performance as King George III in Hamilton in 2014. It is a play that Miranda wrote and it is produced by Miranda under the name The Jekyll & Hyde Revue.
Playbill will have more on the production as it develops.
