Adele plans to take a break from music after her Las Vegas residency ends in April.

When she sings, “You’re the one I want,” it’s one of those rare songs of unspoken yearning, “How will I ever find you again?” That song, “Someone Like You,” hit No. 2 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart on Aug. 1 and has become one of her signature songs, selling more than 6 million copies and winning her a Grammy Award.

As we begin a new year, we asked a few of our top music experts to share their picks for the most important albums of 2014 and beyond.

1. Beyoncé

By now, we’ve all heard the story of how Beyoncé decided to record in just one take, using just a guitar and producer Bobosh that day, for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “Dangerously in Love.” But that’s just the beginning of a fantastic year for the “Drunk In Love” singer, who has more than 20 albums in the Top 10 this year.

She’s set to release her eighth studio album, “Lemonade,” on Jan. 18. Also, the “Mrs. Carter Show” star just wrapped up shooting her new series, “The Parkers,” with her husband and reality-TV star, J.J. Abrams, which will premiere on Netflix next year. And she’s just wrapped her first U.S. tour since 2009, when she launched her career.

Her album, which will come out March 26, is all about that love affair with her husband, Fergie. “Single Ladies” served as a soundtrack to her relationship with him. As she told “CBS This Morning” on Jan. 11, she decided to follow her song with a love song. And there’s the most important takeaway of all: “If we’re in love, we feel like we have the power to write our own rules and that we control our own happiness and we control our own lives. It’s amazing to feel like that as a young person in your 20s.”
